Carolyn Hove will perform Abeja Blanca for Mezzo-soprano, English Horn and Piano by American composer, Dan Welcher, on June 26, 2013 at the Univeristy of Redlands, Redlands, California. Mezzo-soprano, Janelle DeStefano, and pianist, Lisa Edwards, will join Ms. Hove.
This performance, part of the International Double Reed Society's 42nd Annual Conference, will begin at 7:00 PM in the Memorial Chapel on the campus of the University.
The work, written in 1978, was commissioned by the late American singer Jan DeGaetani, and was premiered in 1979 at the Aldeburgh Festival in England. Mr. Welcher chose as the text, the poem entitled "Abeja Blanca" by Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, which was drawn from Neruda's Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair.
Ms. Hove will also teach an English Horn Master Class on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at 1:00 PM on the campus of the University of Redlands. The class will focus on important English Horn solos in five major orchestral works.
